New Scholarship Opportunity to Offset Tuition Costs
If you’re frustrated with the rising costs of tuition, you’re not alone, and now, there’s a scholarship based just on that. Through Education-Portal.com, you can win up to $5,000 to help manage your college costs through the Tuition Won’t Stop Me scholarship. The scholarship was unveiled last year in September in response to news that tuition was rising rapidly for 2012. Since students are now being the ones to foot the bill after budget cuts, Education-Portal.com developed a scholarship to help with these new costs.
This week, you can sound off about being a college student and actually win the $5,000 award. However, you have to complete a few steps to become eligible.
The first thing students must do is go to Education-Portal.com’s Facebook page and “Like” it. If you already like the education news site, then go right to the bottom to fill out the entry form. You have to answer the scholarship question, which is “What general education requirement do you wish you could have tested out of and why?” Then, tell your family and friends to also “Like” the Facebook page to increase the scholarship amount. For every like that Education-Portal.com receives, the scholarship amount will increase by 50 cents.
The requirements for the award are that you post on their Facebook wall and respond to the prompt on their Facebook wall, so that you can create a discussion with other students. The selection committee will look at different factors when determining the best response. If chosen, you’ll win the scholarship. However, leaving a response is not required to enter or win the Facebook scholarship contest. There will be additional prizes of $20 and $100 to the 2nd and 3rd place responses.
In the past, Education-Portal.com has considered the personal story of their entrants to be the defining factor. How much you need the scholarship will often by the major factor in determining the winner. However, since many students will need the scholarship money, it’s important that you have a unique response to the prompt and give some details about your personal experiences.
There have been almost a hundred winners since the Tuition Won’t Stop Me Scholarship started. The program cycles every few months, with the last cycle being in January before this current cycle which ends February 15th. The site has given away $10,000 to winners in the past and continues to give away higher amounts of money depending on the numbers of people liking the Facebook page.
Another thing, students who want to win will have to be enrolled in a degree, certificate, or diploma program to win. There are other complete terms and conditions that you can read on the Education-Portal.com site located here.
